Today while I was searching for some information
about women in American government I came upon an article called “Why Does
the US Still Have So Few Women in Office?” from The Nation (link http://www.thenation.com/article/178736/why-does-us-still-have-so-few-women-office#)
. The title seemed rather interesting and worth reading, so I did just that.
The article proved to be very informative.
The author pointed out
that women hold less than 20 percent of congressional seats, and according to Cynthia
Terrell they “won’t achieve fair representation for nearly 500 years”. Which
doesn’t present bright future for the USA. Especially since research showed
that nations that elected women to key leadership offices have better economic
results and are better off dealing with difficult situations. Also female
leaders or politicians take the initiative when it comes to introducing bills
in the field of civil rights, liberties, education, health and so much more.
But to accomplish such
situation in the USA, there have to people and organisations willing to change
that, to change the insular way of thinking about female politicians in power. And
there is - a campaign called Name It.
Change It. (link http://www.nameitchangeit.org).
It is a campaign against sexism concerning all women candidates ( I guess I
will look more into it, probably post something about it next time). They fight
for equality in public offices, for the fair chances for women candidates and
ceasing sexist remarks towards all women.
All in all, I think that thanks
to organizations and people who write and inform the public opinion on such
matters as inequality in politics, the USA won’t need 500 years to accomplish fair
representation for both men and women. What’s more, I am certain that gender
prejudice and stereotypes will cease to exist in a near future and that women
will finally be able to show that they are good leaders.
Well that’s it for today, I hope you like it. I’m eagerly waiting for your comments and thoughts
on this subject. It would certainly help me in writing my BA Thesis.

This is a fantastic topic to follow! I love it! Now if you could find some examples of how women are represented in American media productions (VIP - hbo tv series for example) you'll have a great paper :) I'm looking forward to hearing more from you!
