Today I decided
to watch the first episode of the Commander in chief and immediately I
noticed that the main character Mackenzie Allen (VP),soon to be the president
was asked, or really demanded to resign from the office, not because she was non-partisan
or didn’t want to follow the president’s view of governing, but because she was
a woman and as such will not be taken seriously by politics or the nation.
However she decided against the “wishes” of the
fellow politicians and counsellors. She took an oath and became the first
female president of United States of America. Because of that decision she made
a few enemies, especially the candidate chosen by the former president, Speaker
of the House - Nathan Templeton.
Nonetheless Mackenzie decided to act as she truly
believed. She showed that she will not be threatened or perceived as week, only
because of her gender. She made some powerful decisions and sent a clear
message to foreign leaders, especially in Islamic countries, that she is not
scared of them and will do everything in her power to lead the USA to its greatness.
Taking all of this into consideration I can already
make a brief but valid conclusion ( and it only was one episode). The character
of Allen present the change, both good and bad. She is perceived as week and unable
to rule the country, because of her gender ( believe me, I am not turning into
a fanatic feminist, I am staying objective on the subject of my work) and also
because she has different views on governing than the previous president - Theodore
Roosevelt "Teddy" Bridges. Her situation shows that in US government
( both fictional and authentic) the prejudice and unwillingness to promote
women in the Office is still present, but maybe not as radically as it used to
be in the past. Nevertheless I am certain that this series will show the
difficult path of being a female president and will allow me to make some satisfactory conclusions.
This is a good choice, good luck!
